Occupational Therapy
The Occupational Therapy Department at Mitchell County Hospital Health Systems helps patients regain independence in daily activities and adapt to physical, cognitive, or sensory challenges. Our team focuses on improving function, managing pain, and preventing long-term disability through personalized, goal-oriented care.
Who We Help
We provide care for:
- Orthopedic injuries and chronic pain syndromes
- Neurologic conditions (including stroke, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain or spinal cord injury)
- Sports and work-related injuries
- Postpartum and pelvic floor dysfunction
- Behavioral and developmental conditions
- Sensory integration and feeding difficulties
- Vision and cognitive deficits (including dementia and memory loss)
- Geriatric rehabilitation and mobility concerns
Services are available for inpatients, outpatients, and residents of the care center.
Treatment Approaches
Our therapists design individualized treatment plans using:
- Therapeutic exercise and neuromuscular rehabilitation
- Training and education on improving ability to complete self-care and home management tasks, including use of adaptive equipment and assistive devices
- Manual therapy including, massage, cupping, and instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization
- Therapeutic activity including fine motor coordination and dexterity
- Modalities including electrical stimulation, iontophoresis, and ultrasound
- Kinesiotaping
- Custom hand splint fabrication for protection and improved function
- Home and environmental assessments for safety and accessibility
- Specialized pelvic floor therapy for bladder, bowel, and core support
Certifications
Our occupational therapists pursue advanced education and certifications, including:
- Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) for cognitive evaluation and treatment
- Advanced training in Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation
